{"id":4609,"date":"2019-08-28T08:45:42","date_gmt":"2019-08-28T12:45:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wwd-latece.uqam.ca\/?page_id=4609"},"modified":"2026-02-11T10:22:45","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T15:22:45","slug":"our-values","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/latece.uqam.ca\/en\/our-values\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Values"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A <strong>transdisciplinary approach<\/strong> to drive innovation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An <strong>open approach<\/strong> as bedrock for accessibility<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>social consciousness<\/strong> approach in service of humankind<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Knowledge mobilization<\/strong> for next generation sustainability<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A TRANSDISCIPLINARY APPROACH<\/strong> TO DRIVE INNOVATION<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The transdisciplinary approach is rooted in a multidisciplinary approach where problems are broached through a variety of different disciplines. The move from a \u201cmulti\u201d to a \u201ctransdisciplinary\u201d approach begins when these multiple disciplines cross-pollinate one another and work together to generate entirely new fields of knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Co-construction and knowledge implementation are therefore fuelled by such a transdisciplinary approach. <strong>Partnerships<\/strong> and <strong>collaboration<\/strong> play a pivotal, if not to say inextricable, role in this approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AN <strong>OPEN APPROACH<\/strong> AS BEDROCK FOR ACCESSIBILITY<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Open Science, Open Source, and Open Innovation movements are at once the drivers and the goal of our approach. We believe in developing and <strong>sharing knowledge and the fruits of our research collaboratively<\/strong> with all stakeholders, and not only those with the means to take part in the process. This aligns with accessibility as well as our commitment to <strong>affordable innovation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We make our research and research data accessible and open source in line with our goal to contribute to the betterment of society and humankind. All our research and data are made available to partners and any other party looking to implement them, or learn from them, benefit from them, reengineer them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A<strong> SOCIAL CONSCIENCIOUSNESS <\/strong>APPROACH IN SERVICE OF HUMANKIND<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Research is never neutral. It is fed with values. Rather than shying away from this fact, LATECE chooses to explore and document the transdisciplinary implications and the technical, economic, social, and ethical impacts of its work. This, in effort to minimize potentially negative impacts and generate useful and <a href=\"https:\/\/latece.uqam.ca\/en\/research-domains\/#social\">socially relevant ecosystems and applications<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This social consciousness means looking at issues of accessibility, inclusivity, and health in all its various forms, as well as looking at how value invested by end-users translates into value gained. This consciousness also involves looking as privacy and the use of personal information as well as the ethical uses and applications of <a href=\"https:\/\/latece.uqam.ca\/en\/research-domains\/#emerging\">emerging web technologies<\/a>, include AI and machine learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>KNOWLEDGE MOBILIZATION<\/strong> FOR NEXT GENERATION SUSTAINABILITY Fostering an open and collaborative environment for teams of researchers, partners, students, and stakeholders makes all the sense in the world when the goal is to develop and implement solutions. This is even more true when it can be done more widely, particularly in supporting the next generation of minds as they contribute to issues of the day and learn to serve as leaders for the issues of tomorrow.
